Zero-Touch Configuration

Zero-touch configuration is a method of deploying corporate-owned devices in which the setup process is automated and requires no user interaction. This is typically used for medium to large organisations that need to quickly and efficiently set up a large number of devices, such as Macs, iPads or iPhones, for their employees. With Apple Automated Device Enrolment (formerly Apple Device Enrolment Program (DEP)) and MDM, the devices can be pre-configured with the necessary security, settings and apps, and then shipped directly to the end user, who can simply turn on the device and start using it without having to go through any manual setup steps. This can save time and effort for both the IT department and the end user.

How does Apple Device Enrolment work?

Apple Device Enrolment allows administrators to automate the enrolment process for their organisation's iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS devices. This helps to ensure that each device is properly configured and secure when it is distributed to users.

When a device is turned on for the first time, the user will be prompted to enrol in the program by entering their corporate username and password. From there, the device will be automatically configured to access the organisation's email, apps, and other services as per the MDM settings to ensure the correct settings and profile for the end user. This can save time and reduce the risk of errors during the enrolment process. Additionally, enrolling in Apple Device Enrolment also gives administrators the ability to manage and monitor the devices remotely.
