Apple’s WWDC 2017: What does it mean for businesses?

MacOS High Sierra 10.13: Smoother and faster

“At the heart of the Mac experience is macOS,” said Apple’s CEO Tim Cook to the expectant crowd on Monday morning. 

As such, the upgrade to the macOS – ‘High Sierra’ – will see a bunch of performance upgrades. One of the biggest announcements was the upgrade to the default web browser, Safari. According to Gizmodo, the application will not only run faster, but with ‘Intelligent Tracking Prevention’, owners are able to browse online with greater confidence that their privacy is being protected.

For businesses, Apple File System will make it easier to transfer files within the Mac, cutting the time taken to move files and folders.

iPad-specific iOS 11 upgrades: It’s all about the productivity

Touted to be the “largest iOS release for iPad” to date by Apple Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi, the upgrade is aimed at making iPad the new productivity powerhouse, according to Engadget.

For iPad users, the iOS 11 upgrades will improve productivity on a number of fronts: Firstly, the ability to use split-screen features improve multitasking abilities, and secondly, Apple Pencil aims to make it easier to search handwritten notes, using ‘deep learning’ to understand a user’s penmanship.

Employees who use iMessage to interact with coworkers and clients will now have an easier time accessing their messages. According to Vox Media, live cloud integration with iMessage means that users can sign into any device and have access to all of their messages, improving business mobility.

New powerful iMac Pro

Apple is claiming its most powerful iMac to date with the release of the iMac Pro, says Gizmodo. Armed to the teeth with graphics-heavy applications, such as the ability to support up to an 18-core Xeon processor is a “critical upgrade” for creative professionals, or for businesses looking to tap into the emerging VR market.
