We recently have had a number of clients get hit by various versions of the CryptoLocker Ransomware. Basically you will receive an email with an attached file, typically a .zip or .7z file. If you open the zip file, it runs a background process where it starts locking all the files you have access too. This includes files on servers, Dropbox, One Drive, NAS volumes etc if you are connected to them.
This is currently only effecting Windows users at this stage, however never assume the Macs not effected. A user may forward the email onto someone else.
So in short, if you receive an email with a ZIP file attached – unless you know 100% its legit and trust the sender, delete the email. Don’t forward it, just delete it and empty the trash.
If you realise to late and discover that files that they have had access to are no longer able to be opened – disconnect the device from the network IMMEDIATELY to minimise the the impact to the rest of the network. This means pulling out the ethernet lead or disconnect from the wireless network. Shut the PC down and contact us immediately (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Also remember the locked files are locked for good…. the only real option is to delete the effected files and restore from backup. So this is another reason to have good regular backups both on and offsite!!!
Files targeted are those commonly found on most PCs today; a list of file extensions for targeted files include:
3fr, accdb, ai, arw, bay, cdr, cer, cr2, crt, crw, dbf, dcr, der, dng, doc, docm, docx, dwg, dxf, dxg, eps, erf, indd, jpe, jpg, kdc, mdb, mdf, mef, mrw, nef, nrw, odb, odm, odp, ods, odt, orf, p12, p7b, p7c, pdd, pef, pem, pfx, ppt, pptm, pptx, psd, pst, ptx, r3d, raf, raw, rtf, rw2, rwl, srf, srw, wb2, wpd, wps, xlk, xls, xlsb, xlsm, xlsx

The only Apple service provider you should visit in Auckland:
Techday recently wrote an article about Imagetext’s great Apple service department:“Best service ever from a repairer. Very impressed.”
“They were great. Polite, helpful and timely. Took the hassle out of my issue.”
These are just some of the comments customers are reporting about Auckland IT consultancy and repair company, Imagetext. Apple Premium Service Providers have been recognised by Apple for providing exceptional service.Imagetext have just been appointed an Apple Premium Service Provider (PSP) for the third year running, the company is heading into exciting times.
Imagetext is one of only three service providers in New Zealand to have been awarded this prestigious Apple status.
And while it has been selling and supporting Apple and Windows products for 29 years, it is the repair side of the business that is garnering the company additional praise and attention.
The company can repair Mac desktops, laptops, iPads and iPods for the business, enterprise and consumer markets.
“Our team understand that, these days, customers can’t be without their computers and iOS devices,” says Phill Wade, Apple service manager at Imagetext.
“We believe we provide the quickest possible turnaround time to customers in Auckland and, where a repair may require more troubleshooting time, we ensure we are communicating with our customers on a daily basis.”
And it is this fast turnaround time that was one of the key measures in awarding Imagetext its third straight Apple Premium Service Provider status.
Although the company doesn’t have a retail showroom, they do offer a conveniently location on the outskirts of Newmarket with free parking where customers can drop their device in, have it repaired and pick it up again, all at the same location. This saves time as devices are not sent offsite for repair.
However, it’s not just Apple products that Imagetext specialise in. The company is also one of New Zealand’s premier cross platform integrators and have been integrating Macs into Windows environments for more than 20 years.
Fast turn around times, great client communication, highly skilled engineers and excellent customer satisfaction ratings. Each of these components that keep Imagetext at the Apple PSP level is offered across the board – given every customer a business grade service experience.
If you’re looking to have your Mac, iPad or iPod repaired, why not get your Apple service and repairs done at Auckland’s Apple Premium Service Provider, offering you the best service in Auckland.

Imagetext appointed Dell Partner Direct:
From its introduction in 1988 Dell gained huge momentum in the marketplace with well appointed products at affordable prices. They have traditionally had a direct approach to their customers which for commercial customer often meant having yet another channel to procure their IT requirements. The Partner Direct program is a real benefit for those companies as they can more readily procure all their IT equipment from a single source.
Darius Mistry, managing director at Imagetext says “the great thing for our Dell clients is that they can enjoy a single point of contact for their Dell product and associated non Dell peripherals and products, making it a single step order process for them. Dell has an excellent product range from entry level notebooks and desktops through to high end server hardware and it will certainly become part of the overall strategic planning and implementation for a number of client sites”.
